Buster Blackjack 4,4/5 7389 reviews

Buster Blackjack is an RNG based game designed and run by Playtech, one of the industry’s most respected and prolific game developers.

Rtp

It is your standard game of blackjack with a side bet bolted on, which pays out different amounts when the dealer goes bust depending on how many cards it took to get them there.

The game is played with six decks with dealt cards being reused in the pack after each hand, and there are one or two minor adjustments to the rules too as detailed below.

The Game Rules

  • Buster Blackjack is a side bet if the dealer busts. The win depends on the number of cards required. I think this side bet has been around for a while. I thought I wrote up a page on it, but couldn't find it, so just created a new Buster Blackjack page.
  • Apr 29, 2013 In this post, I discussed card counting the Buster Blackjack (BBJ) side bet in the six-deck case. The player wins the BBJ side bet if the dealer busts. The payout is based on the number of cards in the dealer’s busted hand, with a top payout for an 8+ card dealer busted hand. There are at least eight different pay tables offered with BBJ.
  • Buster Blackjack is an exciting Blackjack side bet that allows players to win based on the number of cards in the dealer's busted hand.

Buster Blackjack by Playtech is an online table game which is one of the most well-known games in the gambling industry. The design of the game is really simple and you can play it on your smartphone as well as on your tablet, laptop, or desktop. The table limit starts from 0.50 credits and ends at 10,000 credits.

A quick look at the game table below will show you that everything looks more or less as normal aside from the side bet which we will cover later.

As with most blackjack variants, the basic task of getting closer to 21 than the dealer is at the heart of the game, and you can play five hands at any one time in order to try and do this.

Splitting, doubling, and insurance are all available as usual, but you can only split once and doubling is still allowed after you have done so.

A few other key rules are noted below:

  • Dealer always draws to 16
  • Dealer always stands on 17 or higher
  • Only 1 card is drawn to each Ace
  • If the dealer’s first card is Ace, the player doubles, and dealer gets blackjack, the player loses both bets.
  • If the dealer’s first card is 10, the player doubles, and the dealer gets blackjack, the double bet is returned to the player.

Keep these in mind when playing, as many blackjack variants will make slight changes to the rules in order to balance out any extra features or side bets.

10 Card Charlie

Although unlikely, it is theoretically possible to draw 10 cards and still not go bust. If this happens the player wins automatically unless the dealer has blackjack.

This is the case for split hands also.

Chart

Buster Side Bet

This side bet can be placed alongside any hand that you are playing, but it cannot be placed on its own.

You are betting that the dealer will go bust, but your payout increases the more cards it takes for the dealer to get there. If you also have blackjack then the payouts can be huge, as high as 2000:1 in the most unlikely cases.

The payouts are as follows:

Number of CardsPayout
3 or 43:1
54:1
618:1
750:1
8 or More250:1
7 + Player has Blackjack800:1
8 + Player has Blackjack2000:1

Even if your hand loses your Buster side bet can still win. Look at the image below for an example:

Here, we had bust but the dealer continues to draw cards as per the dealer rules and they too went bust themselves. This results in a lost bet on the game but a winning side bet as the dealer went bust in 3 cards, so we got 2:1 on our stake of £1, returning £3.

Note: This image is from a different version of the same game with the same rules, but developed by a company called Felt.

RTP

The player actually benefits from as slightly better RTP in this variant of the game, albeit only slightly, as the return to player percentage is 99.58% instead of 99.50%.

Bear in mind that this assumes you are playing a solid strategy. If you don’t know what you are doing the house edge can jump to 2% making the RTP 98%.

The RTP for the Buster side bet is lower at 93.79%.

Please click on the link and let me know what you think. As always, I welcome all questions, comments, and especially corrections.
The question for the poll is would you play Buster Blackjack, assuming you were playing blackkjack in the first place?
It's not whether you win or lose; it's whether or not you had a good bet.

Mike you were quite comical with the options toniggt
No longer hiring, don’t ask because I won’t hire you either

With a high enough count, could the buster bet become lucrative?

Thanks. To be honest, I'm starting to run low on ideas.

I'm depressed - the house edge is fairly high so surely it should be rated as in the 'best avoided' category.

That's actually quite reasonable. Not a bad SB at all.

Take some happy pills and make some buster bets. The future is a bright one!

With almost 92% of wins paying 2-1, this bet requires red action to have any juice for the player. Works well and gets action in So Cal market where it is difficult to play anything less than $15 min BJ. $15-$25 main bet with a $5-$10 Buster bet seems to work.
A $5 main with a $1 Buster bet that is going to pay you $2 when the dealer busts...not so exciting for me, but AGS is placing it aggressively these days. It will be interesting to see how sticky it is outside of its So Cal original market.

So, I was playing the demo and was dealt a BJ. Since I had the Buster bet up, dealer finished out his hand, eventually drawing to a 21. It pushed my main BJ bet! I assume this is a glitch in the app, and not an actual rule of the bet?
Not happy with how the marshmallow was insufficient in melting the chocolate bar in a s'more, my Mom would pre-make the s'more and wrap it in aluminum foil. Then, we would put these 'packages' on a grate over the campfire for a few minutes. It was literally a 'hot mess' to try and eat, but... Best. S'mores. Ever.

First, if the players all bust then usually the dealer does not hit his hand to determine whether hhands of <17 would ahve gone bust. - do you lose the Buster BJ side-bet in this situation? Or does the dealer hits his cards anyway if he has less than a 17 in order to determine the outcome of the sidebet? If the dealer does not always play out his hand, the House Edge on the sidebet should be calculated assuming that the dealer does not play the hand when all players go bust -and thus the calculated side-bet should be a function of the number of players at the table.
I am very confused by this site:

The House edge is quoted to be different than what the Wizard just calculated for what appears to be the same assumptions on BJ rules. In this site's quoted simulation of 100M hands on a six-deck game with a card count of the A,2,3 cards, I don't understand if the dealer is assumed to play out his <17 hands when the player goes bust.
